By Sarah Fisher

A jewelry or a jewellery is consists of small materials or items that contain simple but elegant designs which are often worn to be used as personal adornments. The examples of it are earrings, necklaces, rings, brooches, and bracelets. A jewellery can be either worn or attached to a body or to a clothing. Back in history, most of the common materials which are being used are metals and these metals are often combined with gemstones.

Aside from gemstones, other similar materials used are corals, precious metals, amber, beads, and enamel. This can either be manufactured or produced using machines or just a handmade jewelry. A jewellery has many basic forms and these forms vary from different cultures in different places. In some cultures, this is used as adornments for the ankles or for the nose. These forms are considered to be meaning symbols for properties or just simple patterns.

The handmade jewellery is assembled and formed through the using the bare hands instead of using machines. So literally, it means that the production of this can be done anywhere even at home. So here are some useful ideas to consider when starting to make your own piece. First, buy your own jewelry kit. Many craft stores have stocks from which you can buy this. Inside the kit are the supplies and the tools that may be utilized for customizing your own piece.

Inside the kit also are the basic instructions which you can optionally follow. This means that you can always choose own style and design, thus, it can possibly enhance the imagination and as well as the creativity in you. Second, choose the specific type that you will be making. Some choices are rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. Third, purchase other tools which you will need that are not in the kit.

Fourth is purchasing other needed supplies for the project if the supplies provided by kits are not enough. Fifth is to become familiar with basic measurements. To familiarize the basic measurements can help for you to determine the size of the piece to make. Common sizes are used in most bracelets and in most necklaces.

Sixth is learning the basic skills and techniques. Before you begin with your own piece, be sure to learn all the necessary skills and techniques for achieving a successful project. Some common skills and techniques are cutting wires, stringing, opening jump rings, wire working, and the use of jigs and pegs.

Seventh is assembling the required materials. After choosing the project that you want, begin on gathering and assembling all needed materials. These are materials may either be form your kit or from those that you have purchased.

One example for this is when making charm earrings, and the first thing that you need to do is selecting a charm type. And then next is choosing one type that best fits your piercing. And if done, begin by following the given instructions from the kit or from you research.

Lastly, you practice before you start on making the actual project. There are practice wires available in the craft stores. Using these may help you in mastering the techniques. Do several tries and repetitions until the product becomes high in quality.
